Top 3 CDMA Tracfone Cell Phones

The Top 3 CDMA Phones Offered by Tracfone

CDMA cell phones from Tracfone use the CDMA networks of either Verizon or Sprint. While GSM phones are more widely used by Tracfone customers, using a CDMA phone may work better in your area.

Note: With the recent release of four Android powered smartphones available with Tracfone on CDMA networks, this post does not take them into account at this time. But we will update in the near future.
To learn more about these phones, visit our Cell Phone Reviews page.

We will cover the Top 3 Cell Phones from Tracfone that use the CDMA networks. If you don't know enough about CDMA and GSM, you should read our recent post covering the Difference between Tracfone CDMA and GSM phones and which is right for you before going much further.

CDMA phones, which end in a 'C', like LG 501C, are not as popular with Tracfone and there are not as many phones to choose from. There might be several reasons for this, but some suggest it is because using CDMA networks costs Tracfone more than GSM networks.

TracfoneReviewer has compiled this list of the top 3 CDMA cell phones from Tracfone for the express purpose of passing knowledge and information along to consumers. If you have questions or comments, leave them below in the comments section.

The Top Picks of Samsung Brand Cell Phones from Tracfone

Samsung is a major electronics company that has created some of the most popular cell phones on the market.

Samsung Brand Cell Phones available through Tracfone
Tracfone uses several Samsung phones through their prepaid cell phone service and we want to share three great Samsung phones from Tracfone.

Tracfone cell phones are typically older model phones with good durability and low price. They don't have all the latest touchscreens or apps, and they are not smartphones, but some of them do have some pretty decent features.

TracfoneReviewer would like to share our top three picks for Samsung cell phones available with Tracfone.

Top 3 Samsung Phones used with Tracfone Prepaid

Let's jump right into our list with Number three:

#3 - Samsung S125G

This simple, and inexpensive phone isn't fancy, but it does the basics well - calling and texting. It also has an MP3 player for loading and listening to music, but you will need to purchase the MicroSD card separately.

This phone generally sells for $10 or less, making it a great phone when you just want something cheap, or if you need a burn phone.

You can find the Samsung S125G at many stores, and online at places like Amazon and Ebay. We wouldn't recommend this phone unless you just need a backup or emergency phone, or really want to keep expenses low. The next two phones in this list offer a lot more features and better value, at a higher price.

#2 - Samsung S425G - (click to read our full review!)

best prepaid samsung cell phones
Samsung S425G
A sliding full QWERTY keyboard makes this phone stand out. Match that with Triple Minutes for life, a 2 MP camera and lots of other features and you have a very good prepaid phone, which is how this phone got to #2 on our list.

These features do come at a cost of around $50 for the cell phone, but in our opinion, it is well worth it for this phone that often goes overlooked by Tracfone users.

The Samsung S425G is available in most stores, but if you want to ensure you can find it, we suggest ordering online from Amazon, Ebay or the Tracfone website.

#1 - Samsung S390G - (click to read our full review!)

Our top pick is the Samsung S390G for two big reasons: great features and great price.

top samsung cell phones from Tracfone
Samsung S390G
Specifically, the Samsung S390G comes with most of the same features as the S425G, like Triple Minutes for Life, MP3 player, camera and more. But it also has WiFi Connectivity, meaning you can get on WiFi internet and surf the web for free from your phone. Plus the S390G has a good QWERTY keyboard for fast texting.

The Samsung S390G typically retails for around $50 in most stores and online, but last check it was on sale for $20 on Amazon! It is hard to beat a deal like that for such a good phone!

It is important to us to mention that some Tracfone users found defects with a small percentage of Samsung S390G phones, so if you have problems, you should contact Tracfone to have them give you a replacement.

Tracfone GSM Vs. CDMA Phones

What is the Difference Between GSM and CDMA Tracfones?

Tracfone is a low cost, prepaid cell phone service provider that uses other major cell service towers from Verizon, Sprint, AT&T and others to provide service.

Tracfone offers two general types of phones - CDMA and GSM. But what is the difference, and how can you tell which one you have, and which one you should get? Get those questions and more answered right here!

What Are GSM and CDMA Cell Phones?

Let's start by giving a little more information about GSM and CDMA:

GSM, which stands for Global System for Mobile communication, is the more popular cell phone standard worldwide, but not as much here in the United States. AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM networks for all their cell phone service, and Tracfone cell phones that use GSM run off of one of those two major carriers.

CDMA stands for Code Division Multiple Access and is less popular world wide, but more popular in America. It is used by Sprint and Verizon for their cell phone service, and any Tracfone devices that use CDMA run off one of those two networks.

So, GSM or CDMA cell phones are simply cell phones that run on one of those two networks.

How to Tell If You Have a GSM or CDMA Tracfone:

GSM vs CDMA tracfone cell phones
LG 505C (CDMA)
This is a common question with Tracfone users that has a very simple answer.

If your cell phone ends with a 'C' it uses the CDMA Network. An example is the LG 505C. Notice the 'C' at the end of the name. All Tracfone mobile devices that end with "C' use either Verizon or Sprint networks.

If your cell phone ends with a 'G' it used the GSM Network. An example is the LG 840G. All Tracfone cell phones that end with this 'G' use the GSM network, which is either T-Mobile or AT&T. GSM phones have been very popular with Tracfone, but recently there has been a wave of Android smartphones for Tracfone and they all use Verizon CDMA service.

For more on these smartphones, visit our Cell Phone Reviews page where we have a full list including all of the recent Android smartphones..

Check out our recent post, Where to Buy Tracfone Prepaid Minutes

Should I Buy a GSM or CDMA Tracfone?

This is also a question we get here at TracfoneReviewer quite often. Many people are unsure which type of phone to get, those ending with 'C' or 'G'?

Here is what it comes down to: As mentioned above, Tracfone cell phones ending with 'C' use the CDMA networks of Verizon and Sprint and phones ending in 'G' use AT&T and T-Mobile. Thus, you should get the phone that will use the network that has the best coverage in your area.

This may take a little research to discover, you may want to talk with friends or look up information online, but when you have found which major cell phone provider works best in your area, use the cell phone from Tracfone that will use that network.

Many cities have either GSM or CDMA as the more dominant provider for a variety of reasons, so be sure to find out which will work better. You can go on the Tracfone website and shop for cell phones there, where they will ask for your zip and determine which type of phone you should get.

The Android powered smartphones that Tracfone has recently released only use Verizon networks, so be sure to evaluate carefully if Verizon service is good in your area before getting a smartphone.

In the end, do a little research and you should find which type of phone will work best in your area.
