LG Optimus Dynamic II Tracfone Smartphone

News for the LG Optimus Dynamic 2 - LG L39C

LG l39c optimus dynamic 2
The LG Optimus Dynamic 2
Tracfone recently released four Android smartphones for use on their wireless prepaid network and one of the phones was the LG Optimus Dynamic. (click for our review)

Unfortunately many people were underwhelmed at the lack of features, and the older 2.3 Android operating system.

But Tracfone has now released the LG Optimus Dynamic II - an upgraded and more powerful version of the first. We started to hear rumors about the possibility of another Tracfone Android, but now we have found confirmation through multiple sources.

NOTE: Check out our Full LG Optimus Dynamic II Review now!

The Dynamic 2 comes with Android 4.1, the latest of any Tracfone smartphones, and boasts other great features like a 3 mega pixel camera, and 3.8 inch touch screen. The touchscreen on the Dynamic II is bigger than any of the other smartphones offered by Tracfone.

You can find the LG Optimus Dynamic II on Amazon and several other online retailers, but we haven't found it available directly through Tracfone yet.

We will be completing a full review of the Dynamic II in the near future, until then you can check out the LG Optimus Dynamic 2 User Guide.

Or you might find the Dynamic 2 (LG L39C) online tutorial useful for learning more about this phone.

While you're here, be sure to visit our Tracfone BYOP page to learn everything about bringing your own smartphone to Tracfone! Even iPhone 4 and 4S!

What to Expect from the LG Optimus Dynamic II

At this point there is little information about how good the phone really is, but based on the specs and features, it seems like it could be a contender for Best Tracfone Cell Phone.

The Dynamic 2 comes with all the features one would expect on an Android Smartphone, like WiFi, GPS, gravity sensor, mp3 player. hands-free speaker, and even 3 home screens.

The size of the phone is pretty normal for a smartphone, at 4.43" x 2.55" x 0.47" and weighing in at 4.5 OZ.

Battery life seems like it will be a little better than Tracfone's other smartphone offerings, with talk time of up to 8 hours reported, and standby of 11 days.

One of the best features of the Dynamic 2 is price, it appears to be priced less than or around the same price as the Samsung Galaxy Centura.

We found the LG Optimus Dynamic 2 on Amazon for $99, but we haven't been able to find it on the Tracfone website yet. It has also been seen on some other retail websites, and even in some stores.

We will be doing a full review of the Dynamic 2 once we gather the information, until then, leave a comment below with your thoughts or questions.

If you're looking for Android phones with Tracfone, read some of our other smartphone reviews, including the ZTE Valet and Huawei Glory.

Any rumors about something with an even bigger screen, such as ZTE Majesty, z796c or ZTE N9510C, l (all CDMA)? Yes, they will cost more, but "old eyes" and all.

How about phones that take a CDMA "sim" such as the ZTE N988.

What cell towers does it use? Verizon?

Anonymous said...

The one drawback to this phone is that there is no compatible case for it.

Verizon

I just got this smartphone a few days ago. I like it a lot. It uses Verizon CDMA, runs all my favorite Android apps, and syncs with all my Google email/contacts/calendar/etc. My old LG 800G was a piece of junk compared to this, and I am still paying under $7/month.

I just ordered one from Amazon ($99) and will review it after it comes in.

This is a good phone i like it!

Its on the tracfone website now - $129.99. Any news on how the triple minutes works? Is it like the Samsung Galaxy Centura Review where the triple minutes are strictly divided between talk/text/data? This is for my daughter who texts much more than she talks or uses the data. It seems like the mechanics of the cheaper phones we've tried just text very well - cumbersome or inaccurate. I'm worried we'll have to keep buying minutes just so she can keep texting. I know, I know... I'm trying to teach her that there are other ways to communicate besides texting, but it is a process!

The closest relative to the lg l39c is the Lg L4 Dual 445. There is a case that fits it on ebay for the LG L4 440 but the microphone hole is a little off. http://www.ebay.com/itm/141151759001?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&var=440231728217&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Looks like it's available from Tracfone now

Just wait. For now, check out the LG Optimus L4ii (E440).

Nice, now the Samsung and ZTE will have to compete on price too..

Unknown said...

it triples all times, 3x talk, 3x text and 3x data. so if you get 60 mints t/t/d you get 180 of each. I am going to be ordering this for my mother later looks like a good phone.

Anyone know if PayPal Here works with this phone??? Thanks much :)

In what stores was this phone seen? Thank you.

All Android phones will use the same 3 bucket model.

As for the new triple bucket plan... It is kind of confusing and I thought I hated it at first, but it is actually great for the user. In one year I can talk for 1450 AND 1450 text message AND 1,450MB of data. On the old phone I could of talked 1450 minutes OR 4350 texts (about .3 minutes per text) OR 14.5 MB data (100KB / minute). So only sucks if you are power texter... but if you are a power texter now you can now download a text app and use your app to text and much better rate than old (.3 min per text). Data used to really suck on the old phone, now it's 100x more for you buck.

I have this phone..its amazing..love it.i only put on a few apps, and ones that can be moved to my sd card.sound is great..photos ok..i have a case coming, only one we could find,at amazon, from the Lg opt.L4 II E440.another person got one, said it fits good.

Text messages are in a separate allocation. However, with apps like textFree and TextPlus you can not only use WiFi for texting, but use the phones 3G data allocation. I can't find any authoritative statement of how many texts per MB you can get. Quoted conversion rates range from 10 text messages/MB to over 6000 text messages/MB. Even at just 10/MB you could get 1800 text messages with a 60 minutes card, versus 600 with an 800g or 840g. Additionally, you can get data only cards at 300MB for $10, 750MB for $20, or 2GB for $50. At the conversion rate of 10 text messages/MB this would be 7500 text messages for $20. The down side is you need to use a new telephone number.

I just got the L39C. I cannot send or receive pictures am I doing something wrong? Any help would be appreciated.

Do these phones come in 2 models - one for CDMA and a Different one for GSM?

Having used Tracfone for years, I just upgraded to the L39C and I LOVE it. It is indeed a smart phone. And I cannot say enough about the support provided by Tracfone--the techs are great and very patient. I found the little book that comes with the phone flat inadequate so I emailed TF support and they shot me the actual LG manual for the L39C. I worked my way through it, it's a great tutorial, and it told me everything I needed to know. I downloaded it to my desktop as it is some 58 pages.
Thank you all for providing a compatible case. I went all over, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Walmart, online, but couldn't find one. So I have ordered one from eBay and if it doesn't work, no big deal, it cost less that $5.

The LG L39C is now offered on the tracfone website... Amazon is cheaper!

Unknown said...

I've had the LG39C for just under a week, really like the phone, BUT, I've got only 1-2 bars in many areas, my home included, which is unacceptable. I've experienced poor quality and dropped calls. Sounds more like Sprint is the carrier, not Verizon. Comments?

Where is the front facing camera for a SELFY...?

Why not have a camera to be able to take a photo of yourself?

Anonymous said...

Mine is on Verizon in Portland, OR. I made a call before activation and got a Verizon message.

Anonymous said...

I have the Lg opt.L4 II E440 case on my L39C. Fits good. Even though the mic hole is off it picks up your voice just fine.

Anonymous said...

If you pick up a used Verizon phone, bring it onto Tracfone by their BYOP program
http://tracfonewireless.com/byop

Anonymous said...

Jackiehva, what is the specific email address you wrote to at TracFone support to request the LG manual for the L39C?

Unknown said...

I called Tracfone and was assured I was on Verizon. Just don't understand why my old Samsung R455C had such superior signal strength, also on Verizon. Tracfone blamed it on the Android OS, which doesn't any make sense to me.

Anonymous said...

Only CDMA at the present time.

Anonymous said...

Can these phones sync to Outlook? I know there are 3rd party products like Companionlink, but I'm wary because Tracfone disabled the LG800G's data port so this was not possible (probably to thwart hacking) ... I'm wondering if the Droids phones data ports are also disabled by TF ...

Also, what are people using to sync music to the phone - iTunes? Something better?

I just got this tracfone LG Optimus Dynamic II this weekend after played around with a friend's tracfone Huawei Glory. I like the bigger screen on this LG, and the case seems like it may be thinner and lighter. The LG has a shiny/slick back while the Huawei has a matte/textured back.

The battery in this LG is theoretically a 1700 mA, or 1650 in real world.

The wifi is working well.

My only complaints are about the mobile data. I find configuring both the phone and the apps to avoid excess data useage is a challenge. Somehow the Google Play app used a massive amount of data in the first 24 hours, I can't figure out what it was doing or why.

Also LG or Tracfone has modified the standard Systems Settings menu, in particular the Data Use settings have been changed, and now there is only one very simplistic display titled "Mobile Data". This screen will display how much data you have used, and what apps used it. BUT it will NOT allow you to set data use limits or data use warnings.

Because of the lack of data use monitoring and control functions in this modified form of the Android OS I must urge readers to NOT purchase this phone. You need to be able to more carefully monitor and limit your mobile data use, by some method other than simply turning it on and off. The Huawei allows these standard Android features to function, the LG has crippled them for some reason.

I have several questions about this phone and service w/ Tracfone.

Specs: I'm unable to find out the storage capacity for this phone, and also the memory. Lots of places confuse memory with storage because phones like this use the same technology as flash memory drives for storage. But there should be two different numbers, one for the amount of space available internally in the phone to store apps and other files, and another for the RAM-like function. I want to know both.

I've been all over the Tracfone website and I don't see any information about the way minutes are billed for this phone. Some posts in this thread above seem to indicate it doesn't work like other Tracfones, where you get charged 1/3 of a unit for each text message and 1/2 of a unit for web access. Where can I read about this?

I have an Android phone from Ting.com and it lets me turn off cellular data entirely. So while I use the cell signal for texts and voice calls, I am not charged for cell data (web) and I only use the web via WiFi. Can this kind of thing be done with this phone on Tracfone, or do they try to force you to use their data minutes?

Unknown said...

I'm having the same problem. I just got it the other day.

Anonymous said...

So far I really like this phone. My only complaint is that for some reason it will not charge in my car? Any thoughts?

Anonymous said...

The new tracfone unit system has 3 different buckets for each kind of usage: texts, calling, and data. When you buy a data card, ex. 60 minutes it is tripled for this phone to 180 minutes. Those 180 minutes are split up into 180 calling minutes, 180 texts (not as good as the old .3 minute system), and 180 mb of data. Amazon has some reviews on this phone where you can read more about this. I have also heard YES you can turn off cell data to just use wifi and not use any background data. I believe amain also tells you the storage and memory in the reviews. Hope this helps!

Anonymous said...

Turn on your data. This happens on my zte valet. Just go to setting-mobile data- and check the box that says enable data. then you can send the messages and receive them.

Unknown said...

I just got this phone and when I go into Mobile Data settings and choose each app it lets you stop using data on that particular app. It then warns you that this app will only update via wifi if you confirm the selection. It's my first Android phone, so I don't know for sure - would that allow you to limit the amount of Data that is being sent automatically without consent?

JUST ORDERED THE LG L39C FROM AMAZON FOR $89.99 & FREE SHIPPING

Anonymous said...

Right now, the L39C is available on-line at Amazon, HSN, QVC, etc. Yesterday (3-26-14) the Tracfone website linked one of their "adds" to the QVC site for the phone, 1200 min/text/data + back cover, car charger and app bundle for $120.00 - one day only :-( like getting the minutes/airtime for free! They still have the phone and minutes for close to the same price. Bought one for me and one for my wife. Eagerly awaiting the package with my fingers crossed!

Anonymous said...

I have been holding off on getting the LG L39C while waiting for a comprehensive review on this site. How much longer must we wait? Is there any reason to believe there's a better Tracfone Android available or soon to be available?

Anonymous said...

I run the Outlook ap on my ZTE Valet with no problems. Automatically syncs to my Hotmail, outlook contacts and calendar. Love it.

I'm on the Tracfone Site right now and I see that the LG Optimus Dynamic™ II is available for $109.99; and you cam buy 60 minute data card which is tripled for this phone to 180 minutes, which are split up into 180 calling minutes, 180 texts , and 180 mb of data.

We are working on the review now! It should be done in a day or less! There are rumors off a phone that runs Android 4.4, but no word on if its for sure, or when it might come out.

Tracfone has an app on Google Play that you can put on your phone to keep track of talk/text/data and service end date. There is a widget also...but I don't remember if it comes with the app or how I got it.

Tap the Browser icon on the home screen. If it doesn't take you immediately to a.tracfone.com, tap the "house" icon at the bottom of the screen. Then tap the My Account icon, click Check Your Balance, and enter your phone number.

Still waiting for an update to this site for the phone. I have read it is a great phone, but others say it isn't so great and warn against buying it for various reasons. I have read to purchase a used phone on amazon or eBay and bring it to tracfone for only $7 a month ... I still don't understand which phone is best OR how the $7/month works. I have spent THOUSANDS on Tracfone(s) since starting with them (I have been with Tracfone for 10 years or so) ... but I am still trying to find a phone I am happy with. Flip phones were my favorite but became too difficult to use for texting. I liked an LG flip I had with Verizon and could text without looking at the phone at all once I became accustomed to the feel of the keys. I switched to a slider and liked the QWERTY but it constantly double-typed characters. I switched to the LG800 touch screen but hated it. The screen was not accurate no matter how many times we recalibrated it. Very tedious so I switched back to slider. Would like to update to smart phone but only for convenience, not usage. I would like the ability to access web if I need to when away from home, but I do not want heavy usage plans or games that require (or trick) me to use the games while gobbling up the data. Download and play only ... and continue to work on the phone even if the service plan ends.

Tracfone's customer service is terrible. I've purchased more than two dozen phones from them (family members/grandparents, etc) We've had 5 phones that all had touch screen problems or coverage, or other things that have gone wrong. Tracfone has refused to replace any of them and required us to pay shipping for fixing and returning ... the cost of new phones, in some cases. None of us are Data users, though not against it - just don't understand how to use data for free texting and need to know how to turn off the data until we WANT to use it. Problem history with butt-dialing ... even though the phone is locked, my daughter's Samsung phone still unlocks itself and calls me when she is in class. Spotty coverage issues b/c we live in an area with mountains, etc. Used to have unbelievable reception with Verizon years ago/before switching to Tracfone but I don't know if one tower system is better than another overall as I have spoken to people with AT&T, Verizon, and many others out here who all claim their coverage is better than the competitor. Cricket coverage is deplorable. Works only in town areas but not during commute. For you Tracfone gurus out there ... Please help/advise ...

Any/all ideas and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have an LG -L38C. The problem is not enough internal storage. Whenever I try to download or update my Google apps, I get not enough storage. Itry shutting down apps to save space so I can add more numbers to my contacts. Same thing, not enough storage or phone is low on memory. I have a 4GB SD card. Is there anyway I can move some items I don;t us to the sd card? This phone is terrible and is a smart phone I purchased through Straight Talk Wireless at Walmart. I noticed Straight Talk does not offer 4G or any phones that are cheaper and better like other companies offer. This keeps up I may have to go to another company. I can not keep buying phones as I am retired and on a fixed income. Can somebody help me?

This is probably a silly question, but before I purchase the LG Optimus Dynamic II I want to make sure. I know that you can't call or text from overseas to the U.S. directly from a tracfone, but can I text through one of the texting apps that are available from Europe to the United States? ring tone-play list problems

I wrote a lengthy description of my troubles accessing both my aol mail and finding an aria I purchased in hope of making it my ring tone, but for some reason I was refused access and my post disappeared before I could save it--this is the short form. New to Android and smart phones--spent an entire afternoon and evening (it's now 3:15 am) trying to do the above. Bought the aria but then couldn't find how to access it, never mind the rest! Thanks for any and all advice.

I got a weird "emergency" message on my screen that told me to hold it down; this led to the phone dial screen. It wouldn't go away and wouldn't let me use the phone; when I dialed a regular number it said it wasn't an emergency number.. Had a little red cross.
I've searched every manual I have and can find online and haven't seen this thing. Eventually, I don't know how, my better half got it to go away.

My wife bought an LGL39C for me early this year. It is my first smart phone. I am still learning it. Something happened about a month ago, and all my data and phone numbers were lost. However, it retained my photos because they were in the added memory that was installed.

Something else just started happening which is very perplexing to me. Sometimes a bold solid red line will flash around the perimeter of my screen. It flashes a time or two, and then stops flashing and goes away. This only recently started. Does anyone know what this is or what it means? Thanks!

I bought my phone (LG Optimus Dynamic II) July 2014. After a year of no problems, the phone will just go to a dark screen even though I've touched it for it to come on. Like right now, I can barely see the time but I know it's on. I've had to be patient and wait for the screen to get brighter. Is anyone else having this problem? The power saver is at 84%, so it's not the power saver being to low.
