Moto G Power (XT2041DL) Tracfone Review

Moto G Power (XT2041DL) Review - Tracfone Smartphone

By TracfoneReviewer

Moto G Power XT2041DL review tracfone

As the name suggests, the new Moto G Power packs a lot of great features starting with a 6.4" HD touchscreen, Octa-core processor, triple rear camera and Android 10.

It is also the first smartphone from Tracfone with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, along with the newly released Samsung Galaxy A50.

The unlocked Moto G Power was released in April 2020 with the Tracfone version first available in the fall of 2020. (Keep up with all the new devices in our List of the Latest Tracfone Smartphones)

This device is actually the successor to the Moto G7 Optimo MAXX which Tracfone released earlier in 2020. Motorola did release a Moto G8, but it was only available internationally. The Moto G Power is technically the G9 Power, but for whatever reason Motorola is just going with the Moto G Power.

Here's our quick snapshot of this phone with our pro's and con's list.

Moto G Power Quick Facts

What we Like:
-Excellent performance/storage
-Large HD screen
-Triple rear camera
-Android 10
-Great battery life

What we Don't Like:
-A little expensive
-No NFC

Just a quick look at the features on the Moto G Power should have many customers interested in this device and it certainly seems to offer just about everything Tracfone users have wanted for years, especially the storage and performance.

We will be comparing the Moto G Power with the previous Moto G7 Optimo MAXX that Tracfone only just released earlier in 2020. But the Moto G Power is, spec-wise, more similar to the new Samsung Galaxy A50.

Let's get to the full list of features and specifications on the G Power.

Motorola was first founded as an American telecommunications company back in 1928. But in 2011, after several years of significant losses and challenges, the company was split and the mobile phone segment of the company was sold to Google. Two years later, the Motorola mobile phone segment was sold again, this time to Lenovo.

It was during the ownership by Google that the popular Moto G line was first released, as an unlocked, budget smartphone that still packed features to keep up with all the daily needs of users. Since transitioning to Lenovo, that has continued with now the latest version, the Moto G8, just released.

Many Tracfone BYOP users are very familiar with the Motorola brand as it has released a number of low cost unlocked phones capable of being used with Tracfone going back to the original Moto G. The Moto G Power is also available unlocked, and can be used with any service provider.

Based on the specs sheet, the Moto G Power will continue this trend but let's take a closer look in our full review.

Tracfone Moto G Power Review

Touchscreen

One of the best features on the Moto G Power is the 6.4" full HD touchscreen. The IPS LCD screen has a resolution of 1080x2300 and a pixel density of 399ppi. This gives it bright, sharp images on the screen. It really is impressive that Motorola was able to pack such a solid screen into this phone. It is a nice upgrade over the G7 Optimo MAXX which had a much lower resolution 6.2" screen.

For the front facing camera there is a small cut out at the top-left side. It is a little odd at first, but maybe a better design than the teardrop on the G7 models.

Internal Performance - Storage, RAM and Processor

Here's where the Moto G Power really shines with a great combination of RAM, storage and processor.

Starting off with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 which is a very good mid-level processor that has eight cores; 4x2.0 Ghz and 4x1.8 Ghz. Combine that with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage to make one solid smartphone that can handle everyday tasks like social media and web-browsing with ease, and even perform well with more resource intensive apps and games.

The only other device to offer this level of performance from Tracfone is the Samsung Galaxy A50 which is also more expensive. Most other smartphones, like the Moto G7 Optimo MAXX, have 32 GB internal storage or less, and only 2 to 3 GB RAM.

Even for those who aren't interested in a phone for gaming or other resource intensive apps, the internal specs on the Moto G Power mean that it will be more capable at keeping up and running efficiently for years to come.

Tracfone moto g power

Camera

Another big feature we find on the Moto G Power is the triple rear camera system which includes a 16 MP main camera, 8 MP wide angle camera and a 2 MP macro and depth camera. The front camera is also a 16 MP sensor for selfies and more.

This is one of the first phones from Tracfone with a triple camera setup and it offers a lot more flexibility, especially with the wide angle shooter. Image quality and features are great for a phone in this price range, and it comes with Phase Detect Auto Focus (PDAF), flash, HDR, Panorama and more.

The 2 MP macro camera is actually a neat feature as it automatically switches on when you get close to an object to get extra details and a nice blurry background.

For video, the rear camera shoots 4K at 30fps as well as 1080 at 30/60fps and the quality is very good overall.

For a 'budget' phone, the Moto G Power still delivers a great camera for the price and it is more than capable for everyday social media sharing and more.

Want to take better photos? We created a guide with 8 tips for better cell phone pictures to help.

Battery

Excellent battery life is a key feature on the Moto G Power and it delivers that thanks to a large, 5,000 mAh battery. The phone also comes with 10W fast charging, which isn't as fast as some other phones, but still helps the phone charge quickly. The battery on the Moto G Power will last for several days with light usage, or easily a full day with heavy usage.

The battery is non-removable.

Android OS

The Moto G Power comes with the new Android Q 10, the latest version, which has both performance and security improvements over past versions. It also has a number of new features such as gesture navigation, location privacy controls, better notification controls and the ability to create or scan QR codes for your WiFi network.

The operating system is well optimized to go with the camera and processor for excellent seamless use and Motorola includes fairly minimal bloatware.

Get the most from your smartphone with out list of the Best Android Apps.

Design

When it comes to design, the Moto G Power is fairly simple and functional. It is actually just a little smaller and lighter than the previous version, while still increasing the screen size by 0.2".

On the right side of the phone are the usual power and volume buttons while the left side has the SIM and external MicroSD card slot. On the bottom of the Moto G Power are the USB Type-C charging port, a standard 3.5mm headphone jack, the speaker and microphone. And finally the top has a noise canceling microphone and speaker, with the fingerprint sensor on the back. The Moto G Power comes with a great stereo sound due to the utilization of both the earpiece and speaker on the top and bottom.

The phone is made from plastic, but still feels solid. Always best to get a case for your smartphone though, and here are some options on Amazon. Even a simple silicon case can go a long way in protecting your phone from scratches and drops.

The Moto G Power does not have NFC or any face unlock capabilities, which may be a concern for some. But we don't often see these features in budget phones.

Conclusion

There is a lot to like about the Moto G Power and for a budget phone, it does not feel like it with the impressive performance, great storage, triple camera, big screen and long battery life. In fact, it might be the best new camera available from Tracfone in 2020.

If we have to find anything that it lacks, it would be a few features that are mostly available on more expensive devices. The Moto G Power does not have NFC or any face unlock technology. It is also almost twice as much as the Moto G7 Optimo MAXX.

Even with the price , we still find the Moto G Power an excellent option as it just doesn't have a downside and should be a phone to last for a couple years.

If you currently have a Moto G7 Optimo MAXX should you upgrade to the Moto G Power? The Moto G Power does bring improvements in almost every way over the G7 Optimo MAXX which means upgrading would not be a bad decision but the G7 Optimo MAXX is also still a solid device and there might be some bigger and better options in 2021.

Where to Buy the Moto G Power (XT2041DL)

The G Power is available from several online retailers, some with airtime bundles and more, which is usually the best value.

Tracfone Data-Only Card and How to Reduce Data Use

Guide to Tracfone Data Cards and How to Buy Data for your Smartphone

Welcome to the TracfoneReviewer blog! This post will share specifics on how data works on smartphones with Tracfone.
tracfone data cards
How Data Works and How to Save on Data

Note - We created a full breakdown and comparison of Tracfone airtime in this post: New Prices/Changes to Tracfone Smartphone Cards.

Tracfone is a prepaid cell phone service provider that offers both phones and airtime cards. On their smartphone devices, you also get data when adding an airtime card which you can use to surf the web when not connected to WiFi.

Data is very useful on smartphones, but how does the data work on Tracfone smartphones, how can you get more, and what can you do with the data you have?

We are going to cover these questions and more in this post sharing all the details about how Tracfone Data works on smartphones.

Tracfone offers a number of different smartphones and you can see all the newest devices in our List of the Latest Smartphones from Tracfone.

Or you might be interested in the Tracfone BYOP program, which allows users to bring their own smartphone. Follow the link to learn more, and see a list of the possibilities.

Both the smartphones offered by Tracfone, and the BYOP devices, use data in the same way. So let's get started looking at how data works on these phones.

What is Data on Tracfone Smartphones?

Data is the term generally used to describe the amount (usually in megabytes) you can download or upload on your smartphone via the cell phone network. So data is basically information you download or upload from the internet. This can include many different activities, like checking email, posting photos on Facebook, reading webpages, or watching videos.

Data is consumed based on the amount of megabytes you download or upload. So if you download a 20 MB image, that will use 20 MB of your data. If you visit a webpage that takes 1 MB to load, you will use 1 MB of data. (further down we will share more on estimating how much different online activities will use up your data.)

On older, non-smartphone devices, data was used at a rate determined by the amount of time you were on a website, but this is not the case for smartphones which is a nice improvement.

As you can see, data works similarly to your calling minutes, in that you are charged based on how much you use. But calling minutes are based on time, rather than megabytes. (For example, if you make a 20 minute call, you will be deducted (about) 20 minutes of talk time.)

On Tracfone Smartphones and BYOP devices, airtime is split into three pools, Talk, Text and Data. Learn more about How Airtime Works with Tracfone Smartphones in our recent post.

How Can you Buy More Data for your Tracfone Device?

There are two ways to get more data for your smartphone:

Airtime Cards - You can add both Regular Airtime Cards or Smartphone Only Cards and get a certain amount of data along with talk, text and service days.
Data Only Card - You get only Data, at 1 GB for $10

For most situations you will probably want to add an Airtime card to your phone to increase all your 'buckets' of talk/text/data.

But sometimes you may only want to add data, in which case the data only cards are useful. Let's take a closer look at Data cards to better understand how to use them.

What Are Data Only Cards?

As mentioned above, the Data only card increase the amount of data for your smartphone, without adding any additional texts or talk minutes.

This is similar to the Text only cards we recently discussed.

There are some important things to be aware of the make the Data only cards unique.

First, they can only be used with smartphones, including the Android devices offered by Tracfone, and all phones offered through the BYOP program.

Second, like the Text only card, Data only cards do not triple, so you get the amount listed on the card (1 GB).

Data Card Amount and Cost Per MB Compared to Airtime Cards

Tracfone just offers one Data only card option at this time:
  • 1 GB for $10
This results in 1 cent per MB of data.

Cost per MB for Tracfone Data cards and Airtime cards Compared:

Below is a table with all of the current airtime cards from Tracfone and how much data comes with each one. We've included both Smartphone only cards and regular airtime cards.
how much data do you get with tracfone
Tracfone Data Amounts and Cost per MB
There are two key points to take note of from this Chart:
  • Smartphone only cards come with a lot more data compared to regular airtime cards
  • Smartphone only cards are a better deal for data (except the 1500 and 200 minute cards)

In general, if you only need data, the data only card is a good deal. But if you also need talk and texts, then the 300 or 750 minute smartphone cards are a good deal.

Where to Buy Tracfone Data Cards

Tracfone Data cards are available form a variety of sources, as is the case for Tracfone Airtime cards. You can find Data cards on the Tracfone website under Airtime.

You can also find the Tracfone Data cards in many retail stores, and even online through other retailers. We have found Data cards on eBay in various amounts.

Now let's cover one more question that we see asked quite often.

How Much Can you Do Online with 300 MB of Data?

A common question we see is, what can you do online with a certain amount of data? This is a very good question, because many people tend to estimate how many airtime minutes they will need, and then buy the airtime card that suits their needs best. But if you're unfamiliar with how much data is used by smartphones, it makes it hard to estimate.

It is a little hard to give a straight answer to this question, it all depends on what you do online  Take a look at this image (provided by Tracfone) to help give you a better idea:

tracfone 300mb of data what you can do
Estimated usage for 300 MB of data with Tracfone
From this table we see you can visit about 245 webpages with 300 MB of data, or send/receive about 4000 emails. Hopefully this information will help you gain a better understanding of how data is used with Tracfone, and where your data is going.

If you notice, doing certain things online, like streaming music, or even more so, streaming video, will use your data quickly, while visiting webpages or sending emails, especially those with few images, will use less of your data.

Another good resource for estimating your data usage is the Data Calculator on Verizon's website. Enter your estimated activities, and it will tell you about how much data you will use in a month.

Remember, that if you want to stop using data, you can go into the settings on your device, select data, and turn it off. Using WiFi networks, like at your home or work, does not deduct from your data.

Tips for Reducing Data Use

tracfone data saving tips

Here are some helpful tips to reduce the amount of data you use.
  • Keep track of your data use and set data use warnings to help
  • Turn off background data (learn more here)
  • Download/upload large files over WiFi as much as possible
  • If you use Google Maps often in a certain area, download the map of that area over WiFi. Here is some helpful information about using Google Maps without using data.
  • Download songs/podcasts over WiFi instead of streaming them.
  • Set your Apps to only update over WiFi.
  • Download Images/Videos only when using WiFi
As you can see, the best way to reduce data usage is to avoid using it for large downloads or uploads, which will quickly drain your data. Using free WiFi whenever possible will go a long way in extending your data.

Here is a helpful article on what online activities use data, and some other basic details about data usage from an AT&T Forum.

We hope you found this information helpful, and please leave a comment with any questions, or if you have something to add!

As you might expect, this list is dominated by more expensive smartphones Tracfone has released over the last few years. But which one will receive the top pick? And where in the ranking do the rest of the phones fall?

If you would like to see all of our recent reviews, visit our Cell Phone Review page. Also keep up with new devices on our Latest Tracfone Cell Phone List.

We are judging this list of the best cell phones based primarily on features, specifications, and performance as well as feedback from consumers. Price and availability will only be small factors, as both of these variables change often.

Here's the our picks for the top Tracfone smartphones in 2021:

Best Tracfone Smartphone (2021)

  1. iPhone XR 64GB
  2. Samsung Galaxy A51
  3. Moto G Power
  4. Samsung Galaxy A50
  5. Apple  SE 64GB
  6. Samsung Galaxy A21
For most users, the top phones in our list are impractical due to their high cost. So a good option is to purchase an unlocked phone and use with the the Tracfone BYOP program.

We expect Tracfone to continue to release several new Android and Apple smartphones in 2021, and will update as needed!

Now let's see the list!

Note that there are newer models of the iPhone available, including the iPhone 8 which is available from Tracfone, and the iPhone X which is not available from Tracfone at this time.

The 6S Plus comes with Apple iOS, a 5.5" HD touchscreen, 32 GB internal memory, dual core processor, 2 GB RAM and 12 MP camera.

The iPhone 6S Plus is currently listed on the Tracfone website for $189 which is a pretty good deal. There are also unlocked refurbished options available on Amazon for $148 (GSM compatible)

The iPhone SE actually has the same internal specs as the larger, iPhone 6S, and they were both released at the same time. The iPhone SE has a smaller, 4" screen, and originally retailed for $399, but the Tracfone website has it available for under $200.

Tracfone Samsung Galaxy A01 S111DL
Samsung Galaxy A01 Review (S111DL)
Featuring a 5.7" screen, Octa-core processor and Android 10, a new budget friendly device from Samsung called the Galaxy A01 is now available for use with Tracfone's prepaid service as of June 2020.

The Galaxy A01 is under $100 and comes with dual rear cameras, 2 GB RAM, and 16 GB internal storage. It looks like good replacement for some of the older Samsung phone options including the Galaxy J2 and Galaxy J3 Orbit.

The Samsung Galaxy A01 follows several other devices recently released by Tracfone including other Samsung smartphones like the Galaxy A20. Keep up with all the new phone sin our List of the Latest Tracfone Smartphones.

The Galaxy A20, by contrast, has a much larger screen at 6.4", but for consumers interested in a device that more easily fits in a pocket or your hand, the Galaxy A01 may be a good option.

Let's get into the details on the A01 starting with our pro's and con's

Samsung Galaxy A01 Quick Facts

What we Like:
-Android 10
-Dual rear facing cameras
-Under $100
-Octa-core processor

What we Don't Like:
-2 GB RAM
-16 GB internal storage

With any budget smartphones there are trad offs and in the case of the Galaxy A01, we see that it only has 16 GB internal storage which for many users is not enough, and it only has 2 GB RAM which may limit the phone when it comes to performance.

But, somewhat surprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy A01 comes with the newest Android OS and is one of the first devices on Tracfone to offer that. Android 10 offers a number of new features and improvements over previous versions including dark theme, new privacy and location settings, and greater control over notifications.

The latest Android OS is a great feature, but what else does this phone offer? Now for the full list of features and specs on the Galaxy A01 (S111DL)

Many consumers are familiar with the Samsung brand as they are a global manufacture and the largest consumer electronics maker (by revenue) in the world. They are based in South Korea and have a broad lineup of smartphones with their high end device, the Samsung Galaxy S10, a contender for one of the best phones in the world.

The Galaxy A01 does get some of the classic design elements of Samsung phones with a familiar layout for the charging and headphone ports and it also features an edge-to-edge Infinity Display.

Now let's get into the details with our review of the A01.

Samsung Galaxy A01 (S111DL) Review

Touchscreen
The Galaxy A01 comes with a relatively small, 5.7" PLS TFT capacitive touchscreen. It has a resolution of 720 x 1520 pixels and 19:9 screen ratio which is fairly common these days. While the screen is small by comparison to the Galaxy A20, which has a 6.4" screen, both phones actually have the same resolution, which gives the A01 a better pixel density of 301 ppi. This just means that images and media on the Galaxy A01 are just a little sharper, but probably won't be noticeable for most. One thing that is noticeable is that the A20 is a bit brighter with its super AMOLED display compared to the screen on the A01.

Tracfone Samsung Galaxy A01 Review

Internal Performance - Processor, RAM and Storage
Here is where the A01 cuts corners to keep the price low. We see an Octa-core processor which is good, but it is an older, Qualcomm Snapdragon 435 2.02 with average performance. Combined with only 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, this phone just doesn't have the specs to keep up with the apps and activities of most users these days as apps become larger and more resource intensive.

There is a microSD card slot for expanding the storage.

Camera
Image quality is surprisingly good with the 13 MP rear sensor that has autofocus, LED flash and more. There is also a 2 MP depth sensor for those portrait mode shots. For video, the A01 can shoot standard 1080p at 30fps.

On the front of the phone there is a small notch in the top of the screen where the 5 MP selfie camera is located. It captures decent photos and video and has selfie focus plus a timer.

Read our 8 Simple Tips for Taking Better Photos to get the most from your cell phone photography.

Battery
A 3,000 mAh battery comes with the Samsung Galaxy A01 which gives it about 19 hrs talk time and standby up to 11 days. The battery is non-removable and it does not have fast-charging capability.

Android OS
The Android 10 OS on the Galaxy A01 is a big highlight for this phone and one of the first from Tracfone with the updated Operating System. It also has Samsung's One UI 2.0 which gives it a number of the same features as Samsung's high-end devices including night mode and much more.

Android 10 brings a number of new features as well as security updates. Some of the features include focus mode, dark theme, sound amplifier and live caption. Learn more about all the Android 10 improvements here.

Design
Samsung has given the A01 a sleek and polished look that makes it appear much more expensive than it is and follows a number of design trends from the more expensive Samsung Galaxy S10. The back of the phone is made from plastic but looks very good with a matte finish that keeps it from getting fingerprints. On the right side of the phone are the traditional volume and power buttons with the 3.5mm headphone jack and micro USB on the bottom.

The bezels on the touchscreen are reasonable with just a bit of space at the bottom of the phone and the overall design is clean and simple. There is no fingerprint sensor on the phone, but it does have facial recognition software for unlocking.

Conclusion
With the new Android 10 OS and classic dependability of a Samsung device, the Galaxy A01 looks and feels good. However, the performance side of the phone suffers, and users who enjoy more than a few different apps or like playing some of the latest games will push the A01 to the limits of its storage and performance capabilities.

The A01 then is more suited for consumers looking for a dependable phone but don't need it for much more than calling, texting, some social media and maybe a few photos. It would make a nice upgrade over the Samsung Galaxy J2 or J3 Orbit as both of these devices have older Android OS, but share the same RAM and internal storage.

For a phone that is more capable, consider the Samsung Galaxy A20 which has more RAM, storage, and improved processor but also a higher price tag.

Where to Buy the Samsung Galaxy A01

The Galaxy A01 is currently only available from Tracfone. We will update as more retailers become available.

But the A20 has a much larger screen, 4,000 mAh battery and 3 GB RAM.

Tracfone offers a variety of different phones from top manufacturers and it has been some time since Tracfone released their last Samsung device (other than the A10e), the Galaxy J7 Crown. One of the big changes in the new Galaxy device is the increase in storage from 16 GB to 32 GB which will make many users very happy to see.

The Galaxy A20 does get some of the classic design elements of Samsung phones with a familiar layout for the charging and headphone ports and it also features an edge-to-edge Infinity Display.

Now let's get into the details with our review of the A20.

Samsung Galaxy A20 Review (S205DL)

Touchscreen
The display is a large, 6.4" screen with edge-to-edge coverage and just a very small bezel at the top and bottom of the phone. It has a resolution of 1560x720 with a screen ratio at 19.5:9 and pixel density of 268. While the pixel density is not as good as many of Tracfone's other smartphones, it isn't that noticeable and the screen is actually very bright and clear, thanks to the Super AMOLED Infinity display which also gives it some great viewing angles.

This phone follows the current trend of making smartphones with a larger screen but only really increasing how tall the device is to allow users to still grip the phone comfortably.

The A20 has one of the largest screen sizes available from Tracfone and is a great option for those who enjoy watching lots of videos or other media on their phone.

Samsung Galaxy A20 Review and Specs
Tracfone Samsung Galaxy A20 (S205DL) Review

Internal Specs - Processor, RAM and Storage

Featuring an Octa-core processor, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, the Galaxy A20 is one of only a few smartphones currently available from Tracfone with these specs. The Moto G7 Optimo MAXX being one of the other options.

The internal storage of 32 GB gives consumers about 21 GB usable space after the OS and other apps that come pre-installed. The A20 will also accept a microSD card up to 512 GB.

Many users will be happy to see the 3 GB RAM that come with the Galaxy A20 which help it with multitasking and gaming.

And finally, the Octa-core (2x1.6 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6x1.35 GHz Cortex-A53) processor performs most tasks very well and keeps up with the majority of apps and games without any problems.

Camera
The Galaxy A20 features dual rear cameras with a 13 MP main camera and 5 MP wide angle with AF, LED flash, panorama and HDR. On the front is an 8 MP camera for selfies. The cameras perform well, but are not up to the same quality as higher-end devices. For a phone with an impressive camera and a reasonable price, consider the Pixel 3a.

Video with 1080p@30fps is available from both the front and rear cameras.

Battery
Battery life for the A20 is good with a 4,000 mAh non-removable battery. Most users will get a full day of use out of the phone and some low to moderate use will lead to two days of battery. Fast charging allows this phone to be fully charged in just 2 hours.

Android OS
The Galaxy A20 comes with Samsung One UI which adds a unique look and feel on top of the Android 9.0 Pie operating system. Some of the unique features you get include optional theme and icon packs from Samsung.

Android Pie comes with a number of new features and improvements over previous versions including gesture navigation, app usage statistics and time limits, and adaptive battery for improved performance.

Users are reporting the Galaxay A20 also gets an automatic update to Android 10.

Tracfone has now also released the Samsung Galaxy A01, which comes with Android 10. Take a look to learn more.

Check out the Best Apps for Android Phones.

Design
Samsung has given the A20 a sleek and polished look that makes it appear much more expensive than it is and follows a number of design trends from the more expensive Samsung Galaxy S10. The back of the phone is made from plastic but looks very good. On the right side of the phone are the traditional volume and power buttons with the 3.5mm headphone jack and USB Type C on the bottom.

The bezels on the touchscreen are kept to a minimum with just a bit of space at the bottom of the phone and the overall design is clean and simple. We have a fingerprint sensor on the back, and the phone has facial recognition software for unlocking.

Conclusion
With a number of great features and strong performance, the Galaxy A20 will be a popular choice from many Tracfone users and especially those who enjoy a lot of videos or other media on their phone.

The devices large size and weight might make it less desirable as a backup or emergency device.

Comparison - Galaxy A20 vs A10e vs Moto G7 Optimo MAXX

The Galaxy A20 shares a number of similarities with the Galaxy A10e including the processor, storage, and operating system. But the A20 comes with the larger screen, more RAM and dual rear cameras.

The A20 offers a little more for the price compared to the A10e, but be aware of the larger form factor.

The Moto G7 Optimo MAXX is the closest competitor to the A20. The MAXX has a smaller, 6.2" screen, but comes with the same RAM, storage, Android OS, and fingerprint sensor. The Optimo MAXX also has a larger, 5,000 mAh battery and is less expensive, but only has a single rear camera.

Both are very comparable phones, but with the lower price compared to the A20, the Moto G7 Optimo Maxx may just edge out the Samsung device for many users.

Where to Buy the Samsung Galaxy A20

The A20 is currently available from a third party online retailer. We will update as more sources become available.

How to Use the Tracfone My Account App

How to Manage your Airtime with Tracfone's My Account App

how to use tracfone my account app
Tracfone My Account App
Wondering if there is an easy way to keep track of your airtime on your phone? Or looking to add more airtime while on the go? The My Account app from Tracfone can do these things and more and we will go over what it offers, and how it works in this post!

What is the Tracfone My Account App?

The app from Tracfone is a great tool for tracking your airtime balance whether you have a Tracfone device or unlocked phone. Tracfone created this app for Android phones only (sorry iPhone users) as an easy way to manage your account from your phone.

It has been slowly improved on over the last few years since it was launched, with the app now offering everything from buying airtime, to getting customer service help.

How to Get the App

Start by downloading the Tracfone My Account app to your Android powered device. Once it is downloaded, you can sign in using your online account credentials.

If you have trouble signing in, or you don't have an online account, contact Tracfone for help or go on their website to create an account and link your phone to it.

Now that you are logged in on the app, you should be on the dashboard where you can see the phones, both active and inactive, on your account.

Now that you are on the app, let's look at what you can do with it.

What can you do with the Tracfone My Account App?

There are actually quite a few things that can be done from the Tracfone app including buy airtime, start auto-refill, manage your profile, and contact customer service.

Here is the full list of features from the app:
  • Purchase Airtime
  • Add Airtime with a PIN Card
  • View Service End Date
  • Enroll in Auto-Refill
  • Use a Widget to track your Balance
  • Chat with Customer Support
  • Create an Account and log in
  • Edit your Profile
  • View Transaction history
  • Manage credit cards
  • Find and connect to nearby available Wi-Fi networks with the Wi-Fi Optimizer based on your current location
  • Find nearby Retailer locations based on your current location or zip code
tracofne app check airtime
Track your airtime, get support, and more on the Tracfone My Account App

Adding a widget to your home screen to always have your airtime visible for you is one of the more popular features for Tracfone customers who were accustomed to the old Tracfone devices that always had your airtime amount listed on the homescreen. To do this, navigate to your widgets and look for the Tracfone app. On many smartphones, pressing on the homescreen will bring up several options, including your widgets.

Keeping track of your airtime and service end date is by far the most useful part of the app, but as you can see from this list there are a number of other good tools available as well.

If you're looking for other ways to check your airtime, be sure to read our post on 4 Ways to Check your Tracfone Airtime.

Tracfone Closing 3G CDMA Network- (Now Extended to end of 2020)

List of VoLTE Compatible Phones - Network Closure End of 2020

The latest news and information from TracfoneReviewer.
tracfone says i have to upgrade my phone
Tracfone Closing CDMA Cell Network 2020
Starting a early in 2019, some Tracfone users received messages from Tracfone that their CDMA devices won't work with Tracfone by the end of 2019. For a CDMA phone to work it must have VoLTE enabled in order to make calls.

What does this mean for you and why is it happening? We've got those answers for you plus additional information on phones that are VoLTE capable.

UPDATE: Verizon has decided to push back the closure until the end of 2020, thus allowing Tracfone users to also have a little more time before they will need to upgrade phones. We will continue to update with more information soon.

Tracfone has also confirmed that they are pushing back the date until the end of 2020 when users will need to have VoLTE compatible devices to send and receive calls. Users may still have 3G service going into 2021, but likely in the coming months that will start to disappear.

Why is Tracfone Shutting Down 3G and 2G CDMA Networks?
Many users are asking why Tracfone is shutting down their network and forcing them to get a new phone.

The answer is, Tracfone uses Verizon's networks, and Verizon is shutting down their 2G and 3G networks which will affect any Tracfone CDMA devices using these networks.

Verizon has been planning this closure for several years and planning accordingly by including VoLTE with the phones they sell. But Tracfone doesn't seem to have planned it out so well, with only some of their more recent phone offerings including VolTE so some users will have to get a new phone to maintain service coverage.

Why do you need a new phone to get service? The answer is VoLTE capability.

What is VoLTE and Why Do I Need It?
The term VoLTE simply stands for Voice over LTE (with 4G LTE meaning 4th Generation Long Term Evolution) which means phone calls use the LTE data networks rather than the older voice networks.

In the past (and with many of Tracfone's CDMA phones), smartphones would use the LTE networks for data, while using the 2G or 3G networks for voice calls.  Only phones that are VoLTE capable can make voice calls on the 4G LTE network. Thus, with Verizon closing 2G and 3G networks, only VoLTE capable phones will be able to make calls.

Some may be asking why Verizon needs to close their 2G and 3G networks? The reasoning is that they will be able to repurpose these bands for higher speed 4G LTE and possibly 5G in the future.

Do I Need to Upgrade my Tracfone CDMA Smartphone?
If you received a message from Tracfone that your phone is not compatible after 2019, then you will likely need to buy a new phone.

Check out the Latest Tracfone Smartphones available.

However, in some cases it seems that the VoLTE capability can be 'turned on' for an account/SIM card. Information is still difficult to nail down, and how or why this works is also a bit murky, but some users have reported several different methods for getting VoLTE on their phone.

This only is working on somewhat newer phones, like the Samsung Galaxy J3 Sky, Sky Pro, and Luna among others. It may be worth trying before going out to buy a new phone.

To try and enable VoLTE turn off your phone, remove the SIM card and remove the battery (if possible) and wait for 20 minutes. Then reinstall the battery and SIM, and turn the phone on. To check if the phone has VoLTE, make a call and look in the top bar to see if the phone switches from 4G LTE coverage to 4G or 3G. If the phone switches out of 4G LTE, it is not using VoLTE.

Additionally, some users reported transferring service from a non VoLTE enabled device to a VoLTE capable device, and then transferring back and keeping the VoLTE. Activating a new SIM card in your phone may also turn on VoLTE.

Tracfone didn't activate VoLTE on the phones they were selling until more recently, but many are capable, they just need to be activated.

So what phones are VoLTE capable?

List of VoLTE Capable Phones from Tracfone

The phones listed below are compatible with VoLTE according to Tracfone. Any phone currently on the Tracfone website is also compatible. Any recent phones from the last two years are also compatible. This list is not complete, and we will continue to add to it as we learn more.

Samsung Galaxy A10e (S102DL) Tracfone Review

Samsung Galaxy A10e Review - Tracfone Smartphone

Welcome to TracfoneReviewer with the latest news, reviews and Tracfone promo codes!

tracfone a10e review
Samsung Galaxy A10e from Tracfone
The Samsung Galaxy A10e from Tracfone has been released in late 2019 and we will be sharing detailed features, specs and our full review.

Some of the highlights include a large, 5.83" HD touchscreen, 32 GB storage, Android 9.0 Pie, and runs on CDMA service.

Tracfone offers a variety of different phones from top manufacturers and it has been some time since Tracfone released their last Samsung device, the Galaxy J7 Crown. One of the big changes in the new Galaxy device is the increase in storage from 16 GB to 32 GB which will make many users very happy to see. Tracfone has also now released the Samsung Galaxy A20 which boasts even more impressive features than the A10e.

With the release of the Galaxy A10e we expect Tracfone to also offer a variety of other new devices, such as the new LG Solo LTE, and you can keep up with all the new phones in our Latest List of Tracfone Smartphones.

Let's take a look at the pro's and con's for the new A10e:

Samsung Galaxy A10e Quick Facts:

-32GB Storage
-large 5.83" screen with HD display
-Android 9.0 Pie

What we Don't Like:
-Only 2 GB RAM
-8MP Rear Camera
-Only for CDMA Network

The A10e is a budget phone and as such the manufacturer will always have to cut a few corners to keep the price low. We see the low amount of RAM and lower mega-pixel camera that seem like some of those corners. But it also has a number of impressive features, like the large screen and additional internal storage compared to most other Tracfone smartphones.

Will it all be worth the price tag? Time for the full list of features on specs on the S102DL A10e.

Screen: 5.83" HD screen (720x1560 resolution)
Processor: 1.56 Ghz Octa-core processor (Exynos 7884)
Memory: 2 GB
Storage: 32 GB internal storage, supports up to 400 GB MicroSD Card
Battery: 3,000 mAh battery (non-removable) with talk time up to 18 hrs, standby 17 days

The Galaxy A10e does get some of the classic design elements of Samsung phones with a familiar layout for the charging and headphone ports and it also features an edge-to-edge Infinity Display.

Now let's get into the details with our review of the A10e.

Samsung Galaxy A10e Review

Touchscreen
The display is a 5.83" screen with edge-to-edge coverage and just a very small bezel at the top and bottom of the phone. It has a resolution of 1560x720 with a screen ratio at 19.5:9 and pixel density of 295 which is good. This phone follows the current trend of making smartphones with a larger screen but only really increasing how tall the device is to allow users to still grip the phone comfortably.

Overall it is a very nice screen with good brightness and viewing angles.

Internal Specs - Processor, RAM and Storage
Featuring an Octa-core processor, 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage, the Galaxy A10e is one of only a few smartphones currently available from Tracfone with these specs. The Moto G6 being one of the other options.

With internal storage of 32 GB that gives users about 21 GB usable space after the OS and other apps that come pre-installed. The A10e will also accept a microSD card up to 512 GB.

At just 2 GB RAM the A10e doesn't have as much as more expensive devices and won't be as suitable for gaming or other resource intensive apps. We would really like to see Tracfone offering a smartphone at a budget price with additional RAM in the future. That said, the phone does keep up very well with most apps and the Octa-core Exynos 7884 performs with any typical tasks it has to accomplish.

Camera
With a 5MP front facing camera and 8MP rear camera, most users won't be blown away by the cameras on the A10e but the performance is very adequate in a variety of lighting situations and comes with all the standard features like flash, auto-focus and more. For video, the A10e is capable of 1080p at 30 fps.

Battery
Battery life is pretty average, with enough juice in the 3000 mAh battery to last all day with low to moderate usage. The battery is not removable. For those who like this phone but want a larger battery, consider the Samsung Galaxy A20 (unlocked) which has a 4000 mAh battery and can be used with Tracfone BYOP.

Android OS
The Galaxy A10e comes with Samsung One UI which adds a unique look and feel on top of the Android 9.0 Pie operating system. Some of the unique features you get include optional theme and icon packs from Samsung.

Android Pie comes with a number of new features and improvements over previous versions including gesture navigation, app usage statistics and time limits, and adaptive battery for improved performance.

Design
Samsung has given the A10e a sleek and polished look that makes it appear much more expensive than it is and follows a number of design trends from the more expensive Samsung Galaxy S10

The bezels on the touchscreen are kept to a minimum and the overall design is clean and simple. We are lacking a fingerprint sensor, but the phone has facial recognition software for unlocking.

Conclusion
The Samsung Galaxy A10e is a great phone for the price. Many of the features it has are not going to 'Wow' users but will perform well and likely better than expected.

It will make a great upgrade from previous Samsung phones like the Galaxy J3 Orbit or Galaxy Sky Pro. It is even a good upgrade from the Galaxy J7 Crown, although they share a number of similar specs, the A10e has twice the internal storage and a larger screen.

The Samsung Galaxy A20, however, has more RAM, a much larger 6.4" screen, and dual rear cameras but also a higher price. Take a look at our Review of the Galaxy A20 to learn more.

The Samsung Galaxy A10e is available from Tracfone for $119 but we expect to see it on sale elsewhere with airtime bundles int he near future.

There is an unlocked version of the A10e on Amazon that can be used with Tracfone BYOP.
