UPDATE: We can confirm that certain newer devices, such as the LG Fiesta, do not come with Triple Minutes for Life. Tracfone is no longer including that feature in certain phones released after April 2017. This may include all phones with Android 6.0 or newer, and BYOP devices activated after April 2017.

Read our new post, Facts about Triple Minutes for Life Changes to learn more.

Tracfone is a prepaid wireless cell phone company that provides both phones and service. Many of their phones come with a special bonus of Double or Triple Minutes. In this post we will share many of the phones that have Triple Minutes, and help provide details on how Triple Minutes work.

Let's start with our first question:

How Does Triple Minutes Work with Tracfone?

The way Tracfone service works is you buy airtime cards that come with certain amounts of minutes, like 60, 120 200 etc.

When you add the airtime card to your phone with Double Minutes, you will get twice the number of minutes. If you have Triple Minutes, you get three times the number of minutes.

So, for example. if you add a 200 minute card to your Triple Minute phone, you will get 600 minutes total (200 minutes plus 400 bonus minutes). And that's before you add a Promo Code!

Feature phones (non-smartphone) have all the airtime in one 'pool' but smartphones split up the Talk/Text/Data into three different pools. Many Tracfone smartphones come with Triple Minutes, so you end up getting 3x Talk minutes, 3x Data and 3x Texts. (example: if you add a 200 minute card, you will get 600 talk minutes, 600 texts, and 600 MB data.)

Note: Smartphone only airtime cards do not triple, and can only be used with smartphones, but they are a good deal as we found in our smartphone airtime comparison chart.

We have several full posts providing further details on this including, How Do Minutes Work on Android Tracfones.

You can also learn about How Data Works on Tracfone Smartphones, and How to Buy More Texts for your Tracfone.

Now, here is the list of cell phones form Tracfone with Triple Minutes for life.

Tracfone Smartphones released after April 1st 2017 do not come with Triple Minutes.
We are including the phones from Tracfone that do not come with Triple Minutes. The full details on exactly which phones come with triple minutes is not perfectly clear, but it appears that phones with Android 6.0 or newer do not include triple minutes feature.

Some phones that initially had triple minutes, appear to not include that on new purchases (this appears to be the case on the LG X Style).

  1. I was reading up on phones on Amazon and someone posted that on the triple minute phones they are now operating in a way that you triple minutes, texts, and mb's. For example, a 60 minute card would now be worth 180 minutes, 180 texts and 180 mb. I am looking to upgrade from an older slider double minute phone to an LG 840G. Do you know if this is an accurate report for the newer phones?

    2. I'm considering buying a smartphone from Tracfone. The advertisement uses this same language "a 60 minute card would now be worth 180 minutes, 180 texts and 180 mb" which sounds like your minutes are tripling twice. I currently have an LG 800 G, which has the triple minute feature, but the total minutes, from the above example, look like "buy a 60 minute card...180 minutes OR 180* texts OR 180 MB data".
      * My phone normally charges 1/3 minute per text received and 1/3 minute per text sent. MMS messages cost 1.5 minutes each, which is lame.

    3. Tracfone does give triple minutes on most of their pricier phones $39 and up BUT IF YOU have to use it to go on the WEB it the speed kind of SUCKS they buy all the 3G space on the market from VERIZON, AT&T and T Mobile - and 3 G is slow - but if you are using it as a CELL PHONE the quality is there and the price per minute is still around 6 3/4 cents. For phone and text it can't be beat unless you could get a $30 deal with rollover minutes somewhere and 4 G on the Internet. For Internet use 3 G is just too slow.

    4. YEP that's correct. not sure on the 180 mb though. They do provide 3 G NOT 4 G LTE which is slow.

    5. 4G LTE is now available on Tracfone, but wasn't available at the time this post was originally written.

  2. Hi there! Glad for the site! I was trying to use a promo code online, and I was wondering, since I have a phone that doubles the minutes automatically, if it takes the base minutes, plus the promo minutes and doubles them, or just doubles the base minutes and adds on the promo mins.

Thanks for a reply in advance :)

    1. The promo codes won't double, so you just get the amount listed. But some codes have higher bonus minutes than others, so you can get a few more minutes.

  18. I bought a LG442BG phone for my husband. He is a senior citizen that doesn't need all the bells and whistles. He likes a flip phone. I went into browser to look something up and it had a screen that said Rename and then a file name. I called Tracfone. After an hour I was told this phone does not have data, meaning I cant use the Browser. I asked if I bought a Data only card and they said no this phone is only for calls and texting. I then asked why they put it on the phone. Every time you go into Browser it deducts minutes you cant use. Very Frustrated. Sent the phone back...

  19. Does the LG 442BG get double or triple minutes for life as well .how do I find out?

  20. According to the Tracfone website, triple minutes for life no longer applies for smartphones built after April 2017. I don't see that mentioned in the blog.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Looks like the double minutes are gone too. I'm not able to find a single phone on Tracfone site with double minutes.

  22. I just spoke with a rep at tracfone. She said the triple minutes for life plan has been completely eliminated. You cannot get it for any smartphone and you cannot get it for byop. The only extra minutes plan that still exists is double minutes for certain feature phones (flip phones). I'm not sure if they are honoring older cards with old info on them but basically TMFL is dead.

  23. I did a chat with tracfone rep on their website tonight, and for my zipcode she said all but 4 smartphones have triple minutes. The 4 she listed all have Android 6.0 Marshmallow. I'm wondering if because they are phasing it out, they are not advertising any specifically as triple minutes, but there could still be some options on their website. She encouraged me to get one quickly if I wanted to enjoy the feature still, which tells me it isn't going to last long!

  24. I bought the new LG Fiesta 2 from HSN which came with 1500 minutes, texts, and data. Supposedly it is not a triple minute phone. But when I upgraded from my previous phone, which was a triple minute phone, it gave me 4500 minutes, text, and data in addition to carrying over any unused minutes, etc. In trying to be honest, I called TracFone and asked if that was correct. She told me that the Fiesta is a triple minute phone. That is not the way HSN presented it, so I don't think she's correct. I can't believe they would triple 1500 to 4500....unheard of. Has anyone received triple minutes and not expected it?
