Tracfone Cell Phone Reviews List

Tracfone offers a wide variety of cell phones, from small flip phones, to high-end smartphones. In the last couple years Tracfone has begun offering many more options for consumers, with a number of devices available at budget friendly prices.

Before we get to our full list of cell phone reviews, here are our top picks for the best smartphones from Tracfone.

Best Tracfone Smartphones

1. Google Pixel 6s - Best Tracfone Smartphone

The Pixel line of smartphones from Google have been an extremely popular, especially the 'a' series, due to their excellent specs and relatively affordable price compared to high-end smartphones. The Pixel 6a 5G features all the specs of a great phone, including a full HD 6.1" screen, Google's Tensor processor, 6 GB RAM, and 128 GB internal storage, with a price that won't break the bank.

It also has a very impressive dual 12MP rear camera, the latest Android OS (12, with future upgrades), and 5G capability.

At a list price of $450 for the unlocked version (but that's now closer to $299), it is more than many Tracfone customers might want to spend, but Tracfone now offers the phone at a discounted price of just over $200. There is a lot to like about the Pixel 6a even if it is a year old, and it is one of our top picks for best Android Tracfone smartphones.

2.  Samsung Galaxy A54 5G - Best Tracfone Smartphone (Runner up)

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is one of the latest smartphones from Tracfone released in mid 2023, and has a large 6.4" Super AMOLED screen, 5,000 mAh battery for all-day performance, quad rear cameras, octa-core processor and 6 GB RAM for great performance and 128 GB internal storage.

It is our runner up pick for best smartphone available from Tracfone for the great blend of features and performance while still priced under $300.  The A54 replaces to A53, and offers a more powerful processor among other improvements on an already solid phone.

Also consider the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G and Moto G Power 5G (2023) for less expensive but still capable options.

3. iPhone 12 Mini - Best High-end Smartphone

The iPhone 12 is available directly from Tracfone and offers a number of great high-end features including a 5.4" Retina Display, 64 GB internal storage, dual 12 MP rear camera, and the A14 Bionic hexa-core processing chip.

With the superior performance and storage, the iPhone 12 is currently the best high-end smartphone available from Tracfone although we expect the iPhone 13 or 14 to be available very soon. Generally, it may be better to purchase high-end phones unlocked, so you have a great variety of options and prices.

4. Samsung Galaxy A03s - Best Budget Smartphone

With a 6.5" touchscreen, Android 11 and triple rear camera, the ultra-budget Tracfone A03s packs in a lot of features for the price.

Samsung smartphones are a popular option for many consumers as they typically pass along some of the features from their high-end smartphones to the cheaper ones, or at least, a version of them.

And the Galaxy A03s comes with some familiar design and software features while keeping the cost under $100.

  1. The WiFi on the LG 840g sounds like the best thing I've ever come across, having no built in key board or # keys for calling sounds a little scary. Are there any other phones that come with the free WiFi that have a qwerty key board. Also I've been to Great Falls and checked every store that stocks tracfones and no luck. Did find one on ebay with a year & abunch of minutes for less then tracfones price but how can they sell cheaper then TracFone ?
Thanks for your time & consideation. Have used your site recently and received 250 extra minutes, Great Web Site Thanks again.

    1. That is a great deal! At this point, there are no android tracfones that I know of. I hope Tracfone will move towards this in the very near future. THe LG 840g is a step in that direction.

  4. I've used several Tracfones and found them very useful. I've just bought the A382G for an elderly relative. He's hard of hearing and we are unable to figure out how to increase the number of rings before it goes to voicemail. Do you know how to do this?

    1. This is not always possible on Tracfone cell phones, but may be possible on the A382G. You might want to call or email Tracfone about this. The A382G is one of the best easy to use phones Tracfone offers.

  5. Great site and info... thanks!

Does Tracfone keep their coverage map up to date?

When I entered my zipcode on their site, the two wifi phones showed up as available for my location. But when I checked the tracfone coverage map, those phones weren't listed for my location. I'm not sure what that means?

    ReplyDelete

    1. I don't think Tracfone's map is completely up to date, so if you entered your zip and it was OK, the coverage should be fine. But it may be worth calling Tracfone about it. Thanks for visiting!

    1. I would recommend the Alcatel A382G. You can read the full review linked above, but it has nice big buttons, hearing aid compatible, and is actually loaded with a number of other convenient features. I would also suggest getting either the family value plan (if you or others have Tracfone) or the 1 year cards so there is little to no hassle. Hope that helps, leave a comment with any other questions!

    2. hearing aid compatible does not mean people with hearing aids can hear the voice on the line, it means less interference. I need a high volume phone. hard to find, i'm still searching. can't find a high volume tracfone.

  15. Our latest encounter, of many, was this evening. My daughter just got off the phone with Tracfone customer service after a 2 hr and 36 minute frustrating call. She has the ZTE android phone. Last month, when she rec'd it, they could not activate it and transfer her minutes until they sent a new sim card. Over a week's delay. Now the phone can not text or make calls. After first hour on the phone it was determined the phone is defective (after 2 months) and needs to be returned before issuing a replacement. after being transferred to a "supervisor" who went through all the same shenanigans for another hour and a half, he determined the same thing. This company's customer service is RIDICULOUS we will be switching carriers as soon as possible. DON'T go near Trac Fone!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. I have an LG840g and love it. Today, for around $30.00, I was able to buy 390 minutes to use any way I want.... 1 unit per minute for talking, 1/2 unit per text (outgoing and incoming) and it has wi-fi so I never pay to browse because most places I patronize have Wi-Fi and that's good enough to Google a question, play You Tube or check my Facebook. Do I miss the ap capabilities of android? Heck no! I have an IPad for that! This is a great, economical little wonder that costs me about $15 per month to have. It also takes decent pictures and holds mega music mp3s. Yes, I love this little phone.

I really wanted an android smart phone and was excited to hear that tracfone had come out with the Samsung Galaxy, but then I found out that your "minutes" are divided up... so much for talk, so much for text and so much for browsing. That turned me off because I use my phone primarily for talk. I browse for free where there's WiFi an I text some, but I'm not a teenager and don't use it all that much so basically, I would lose out on 2/3 of my purchase of "minutes" with the android phones. If Tracfone ever does away with the three buckets, I would consider an android. If I was hell-bent on going android, I think I would go to StraightTalk with unlimited everything for $45 per month but for now, I'm happy with my LG840g and my $15/month expense.

    1. The android Smartphone is actually a better deal. When adding a phone card you will get triple talk time, triple text, and triple data time. If I add a 200 minute phone card to my ZTE android tracfone I receive 600 minutes to talk - 600 text message minutes and 600 MB to use on data. You receive all of your talk time plus triple text minutes and triple data.

    1. If you use more minutes - your minutes will be cheaper. I have a triple minute phone and purchase minutes off of the website. I have an android triple minute phone so for $200. I get 4500 minutes to talk 4500 minutes for messages and 4.39 GB to use on data.

    2. I rarely use my phone so I don't have to add minutes, ever. I buy 1 year cards (I get double minutes) just so I don't have to worry about my days expiring on a monthly basis. Just once a year and that's it!

  21. Do you know whether the LG Optimus Dynamic II from Tracfone has that annoying padlock button like my LG800 does? It totally interferes w/calls to business/utility companies where you're required to keep punching in additional numbers before getting a live person on the line.

  22. I have a Huawei Glory H868C. Recently a narrow band of, I call them, "data blocks" appeared across the top of my screen. Each block contains such entries as dX:00 or y-0. Some of the blocks are highlighted in red. Anyway, this data strip blocks out the icons in the upper right corner of the screen. I've tried everything I can think of to remove it. Tracfone Cutomer Service Rep did not appear to understand the issue, and was of no help. Has any other user experienced this? Any advice? Thanks.

  24. Why is it on the smart phones the minutes are separate? You buy a new unit to take advantage of the features and you have 1500 minutes and out of text minutes. That is crazy, The policy needs to be the same as it is on the phones, Or most of us will have to switch to another carrier. Always out of text time but have talk minutes out the wazu Not a good set up for most people

  30. Very helpful site, as I have been pondering switching to a Tracfone android. But, not to sound "dense" I'm confused about the phones that have "free wifi" capability- are you using minutes while surfing the web? Where is the wifi connection coming from? Do you have to be in a "hot spot" with public access in order for it to work? Thanks-

After THREE calls to tech support and being on the phone for 40 minutes and told to try to send a pic in 4 hours, the phone still didn't work. Tech support meant talking to people in other countries that could not speak CLEAR ENGLISH. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!

  36. A very recent blog offering here is the List of the Best Android Apps for Tracfone which suggests the AppMgrIII is a desirable app to move apps from the internal phone storage to a SD card. I tried the app as well as several other SD Mover apps and none work for me. A search suggests that the Android OS on some phones does not allow moving apps to SD cards. Is the Pop Icon one of these that won't allow moving apps to the SD card?

I realize that some apps can be moved and others can't. My issue is that even for the apps that are movable, my Pop Icon does not offer me the "Move to SD" button.

Am I doing something wrong or does the Pop Icon not support moving apps to SD storage?

    Thanks in advance.

  38. TracPhone seems to have developed a policy to make their "Triple Minutes For Life" pay off for them. Periodically (every 20 minutes), without warning or authorization, the minutes on your phone will mysteriously "tick away" in increments of .15 minutes at a time. I called their customer service department and was told, "You're screwed, we can't do anything about the missing minutes".

On a pre-paid cell phone, those minutes are MONEY. So, TracPhone will steal your money and then tell you, "You're screwed".

    What a marvelous business model.

  54. I used to have a TRACFONE flip phone and it worked great for years. About 6 months ago I switched (treated myself) to a TRACFONE LG15G and hate it. After about 4 months it died on me so it was replaced free by TRACFONE (it took a month). The replacement one is no better. Half the time I have to take the battery out and put it back in just to boot it up. That is what the original LG15G started doing before it eventually died. So I see the same pattern. Text messages also take hours to get to me and many calls often go direct to voicemail, which wasn't the case with my TRACFONE flip phone. It's so unreliable that family and friends call me on land lines now. I know the phones are "reconditioned" and it only cost a little over $50, but once this phone dies, I'm going back to a TRACFONE flip phone.
My wife has a Verizon phone and with my luck with the TRACFONE flip phone, we were going to switch hers to a TRACFONE smartphone as well (she wanted a smartphone). That will not happen now as we need at least 1 reliable phone when we travel together.
I can't bring myself to pay $600-$700 for an Apple or the monthly expense involved. So I look at this as a lesson learned.

  57. I would not recommend this company. A complete stranger at a Verizon store told me the same thing happened to his son. I had over 2000 minutes and over a month to go on my prepaid card when they deactivated my phone. After talking to them they agreeded but told me I misused my phone. Asking them to explain how i misused the phone then they told me that I used the minutes up. Constantly avoiding my questions and talking in circles eventually they told me I I needed to buy the $40 card to get it reactivated because I owed them for minutes on a prepaid phone LOL...idiots... The best part is theynot only hung up on me trying to get things fixed but also a coworker and my new cell phone provider. They maybe cheaper but you get what you pay for crap. By the way over half the time I owned the phone I could not get any reception other than in my home.

  68. Does anyone know if tracfone sells their numbers? I transferred a business landline to a tracfone (just to keep the number) and the only calls that come in now, several per week, are spam calls. I never got these calls when the number was a landline. I also just purchased two more phones and wonder if the same thing is going to start happening. I transferred to tracfone because last month mom and I used 3 and 16 mins, respectively of talk time. She has a 200 min time card, which should easily last a year or more, but if she's going to be answering repeated spam calls or having to waste air time checking voicemail, it's not going to be a good deal.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think they do, but I guess it could be possible. It is more likely that, since your landline has been around for a while, it got picked up by some spam callers. It is certainly annoying when random people call and waste airtime. I try to only answer if it is a known caller.

  76. I know this company has the ability to credit minutes, data, texts. They refused to transfer over my phone number and give me my minutes and data which I rightfully paid for. If I transferred my phone number, they would cancel my new package minutes. BS! I asked to talk to a manager and a woman representative refused to send me to a manager. I call back a minute later and I'm magically talking to a manager. Don't think that's coincidence. Shady company with shady practices. Avoid at all costs.

the rep canceled my phone during the original call and I had to call back to activate it. Somehow they were able to give me a new phone, starting over again, and are now working on restoring my minutes, texts and data. (hasn't happened yet). Yet they couldn't transfer over my original number and give me my minutes!?!! How screwed up are their policies and systems?

  77. Do not buy any tracfone smartphones....worthless...their customer service tech support is the worst outfit ever. It shouldn't take 5 hours to activate a LG Rebel Lte. smartphone...and they take off 24 minutes setting it up off of your internet service when you use a landline phone to activate it....when they had to do a hard factory reset. Worst purchase that I have ever made!

  78. Well, I, my wife, sister, and sister in-law are all Tracfone users.....they are not tech savvy, and we are constantly replacing Tracfones, yearly, bought from HSN/QVC, basically because, the phones are just about free with the included one year card......

I would say I have bought about 15 phones over the years, and transferred the numbers for them....never had a problem doing this.....my latest phone was for the BYOP program.....

Today, I just bought the LG Fiesta as an upgrade for the wife's Rebel.....the Fiesta is not on the market yet, only on HSN.......the phone cost $129.99, on sale.....a $125 one year smart phone card is included free....free shipping.....and since, I ordered by my Roku, I got another $10 off.....thus, with the tax, I essentially bought a $125 smart phone card(tax free), and paid $2.45 for this phone.....

Without a doubt, the Fiesta has the best specs for any Tracfone cell phone thus far.....5.5" screen.....16GB ROM.....can't find RAM spec, think it is 1.5/2.......5MP selfie camera with flash.....13MP rear camera, with all kinds of features......7.0 Nougat......1080P video recording.....4500ma BAT.....fast charging technology......plus case and app package.....

  79. JUST MY OBSERVATION ON THE USE OF TRACFONE …
    1) I HAVE BOUGHT DIFFERENT TRACFONES FOR MEMBERS IN OUR FAMILY. MY COMPLAINT IS NOT ON THE FEATURES OF THESE PHONES BUT ON THE WAY TRACFONE SIPHONS YOUR MINUTES. THEY SEND THEIR PROMOTIONS TO YOUR CELLPHONE USING AS THEIR ID NAME A SET OF NUMBERS INSTEAD OF THEIR COMPANY NAME (this is bad enough for new users who are leery about answering unknown numbers).

WHAT IS WORSE THOUGH IS THAT EVERY TIME YOU OPEN THEIR PROMOTIONAL MESSAGES, MINUTES ARE DEDUCTED FROM YOU INSTEAD OF THEM ABSORBING THE COST OF SENDING THEIR OWN PROMOTIONS!!! THIS IS ANNOYING TO USERS AND TRACFONE SHOULD DO AWAY WITH THIS BAD BUSINESS PRACTICE!

    2) TODAY I TRIED TO TEST THE USE OF THEIR "BALANCE" FEATURE TO CHECK ON REMAINING MINUTES (text “balance” and send to 611 611).

    a. 3 minutes deducted to send the text
    b. 3 minutes deducted when I opened their text asking me to give my pre-consent to give the answer (why is this needed anyway when I requested it in the first place!)
    c. 3 minutes deducted for me to text “Yes”
    d. 3 minutes deducted for me to open their reply to the original question (balance of minutes).

AND THE REPLY I GOT WAS TO GO TO MY CELL PHONE AND GET IT FROM 'MY ACCOUNT'!!!!

    3) CUSTOMER SERVICE: THE REPS FROM THE PHILIPPINES ARE VERY POLITE AND PATIENT BUT THE REPS FROM INDIA ARE SO-SO (just an honest opinion).

When my phone loaded, it only gave me 60, but I have the double the minute plan, so I thought I should have gotten 120 minutes. When I checked out, under See Benefits info and it said 60 minutes, so I thought I bought 60. I called cust service. She said $9.99 is 30 minutes, and it only said 60 because I put in my phone number. NO WHERE ON THEIR SITE DOES IT SAY $9.99 AND 30 MINUTES. So I asked for some credit back because I was wasting time calling them about THEIR problem. She said no, I asked for supvr, then waited again. I hung up because it was taking a long time. She called me back, and got transferred to supervisor again, and he said NO, and the minutes aren't free. IS THAT "CUSTOMER SERVICE"?????? Soon as I find another phone, I will be deactivating it. I got the supervisors name, Janell (sounded like a woman), but it was male, and ID 515417. He said I can transfer my minutes, so I have his name and ID, in case anything happens where they do not do that.

I'm moving up to my first smartphone, so am back again. This site says whether a phone uses CDMA or GSM, which other sites, incl. TracFone's, don't usually give. I was considering the Moto E5, until I read here that it's CDMA. I want GSM. I hope this site stays around. And I hope I can find a decent budget smartphone.
