The 2024 Power brings a 6.7" full HD screen, 8GB RAM, 128GB internal storage and powerful, Dimensity 7020 processor for the latest iteration in the popular Power lineup form Motorola.
The phone also includes wireless charging, a feature not often found on budget phones, as well as NFC and 5G network compatibility.
Tracfone offers several other Motorola devices, with the Moto G Play and Moto G 5G both recently released and available at a lower price point, but with a few downgraded features. Tracfone also plans to offer the Moto G Stylus 5G 2024, which will include an upgraded screen and processor, and likely a higher price. Keep up with all the new devices in our List of the Latest Tracfone Smartphones.

About Motorola
Motorola has a long history and was originally founded as an American telecommunications company back in 1928. In 2011, after several years of significant losses and challenges, the company was split and the mobile phone segment of the company was sold to Google. Two years later, the Motorola mobile phone segment was sold again, this time to Lenovo.
During the ownership by Google, the popular Moto G line was first released, as an unlocked, budget smartphone that still packed features to keep up with all the daily needs of users. Since transitioning to Lenovo, the Moto G line has continued with a number of variations released each year.
Many Tracfone BYOP users are very familiar with the Motorola brand as it has released a number of low cost unlocked phones capable of being used with Tracfone going back to the original Moto G. The Moto G Power 2024 is also available unlocked and can be used with any service provider.
The 2024 Power is returning to it's roots, keeping the large battery, and now bringing a much more powerful processor compared to last year's model. Let's get to the full review.
Tracfone Moto G Power 5G 2023 Review
Touschreen
The Moto G Power features a large, 6.7" IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and a 120Hz refresh rate. This results in smooth scrolling and a vibrant viewing experience, making it ideal for gaming and media consumption.
The good screen-to-body ratio of approximately 84.8% ensures an immersive experience and minimal bezels, although the IPS technology means it won’t match the deep blacks and vivid colors of an AMOLED display. Brightness is rated at 500 nits, while the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, for example, is rated at 800 nits, for improved brightness in sunlight.
While the Power's touchscreen is not quite as bright as some of the options from Samsung, it is quite bright and vibrant overall and the size is a nice increase from last year's model.
Performance
Powered by the Mediatek Dimensity 7020 chipset, the Moto G Power 5G 2024 offers excellent performance for its price range and a nice improvement over the
2023 model. The octa-core CPU handles multitasking, gaming, and daily tasks with ease. The GPU (IMG BXM-8-256) ensures decent graphics performance for most gaming and multimedia.
Another big upgrade is the 8GB RAM the 2024 Power features, which greatly improves the multitasking abilities. This is up from just 4GB in the 2023 Power, which was a downside for that device.
The inclusion of 128GB internal storage, expandable via a dedicated microSD slot, provides ample space for apps, photos, and videos. For those that store lots of music, photos or videos, add a microSD card of up to 1TB and never worry about storage again.
Compared to the
Galaxy A15 5G, which has the MediaTek Dimensity 6100+, the Power's new processor is nice upgrade, and even beats out the processor in the
Galaxy A25 5G in some areas.
Motorola has delivered a solid performance package for the 2024 Power that offers more than enough for the majority of users.
Camera
The dual-camera setup on the Moto G Power includes a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization (OIS) and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. The main shooter bins images down to 12.5MP by default, which allows the sensor to gather more information, at the cost of resolution. This is a fairly common process in cell phone cameras, but some devices, like the Google Pixel 6a, does not use it.
This rear camera combination allows for versatile photography, capturing fairly detailed images in various lighting conditions. However, video recording is capped at 1080p, which may be a drawback for those who prefer higher resolution video.
The 16MP front camera with HDR support takes sharp selfies and handles video calls well, although it also maxes out at 1080p video recording.
Overall, the cameras are not a strong point for the Moto G Power, and in general, Motorola is not known for great camera performance in their budget smartphones. Samsung, on the other hand, offers some improvements in camera performance at a similar price point.
Battery
Battery life is a strong point for Motorola in general, and it is no surprise the Power continues that with a 5,000 mAh battery. The real highlight is the 30W wired charging speed and 15W wireless charging, ensuring flexibility and convenience.
Last year's Power did not include wireless charging, and had only 15W charging speeds, which were both a significant drawback. We are very happy to see this improvement which allows the Power to recharge in about 2 hours via a USB Type-C 2.0 connection.
Users can expect extended usage time, easily getting through a full day of heavy use or up to two days of moderate use.
Android OS
The Moto G Power comes with Android 14 and a handful of Motorola's custom software features.
Android 14, introduced in late 2023, brings a host of enticing features including enhanced battery performance, expanded customization options, improved font scaling, and a range of upgraded security features. This up-to-date Android experience not only enriches functionality but also bolsters overall device security.
Motorola is only committed to one Android OS update, and 3 years of security updates, which is a drawback for users who don't plan to buy a new phone every year. Samsung, by contrast, offers software updates for up to 4 years for many of their devices.
Motorola has recently started including a fair amount of bloatware in their budget smartphones which is a major annoyance to users. The home screen comes preloaded with a handful of folders, and includes preinstalled apps such as Walmart, TikTok, Indeed and more. These apps and folders can be removed, but it is disappointing to see this from a company that was previously known for a very clean, stock version of Android that was very enjoyable for many users.
Design
Featuring a sleek design with a glass front, silicone polymer back (eco leather), and a plastic frame, the Power looks and feels fairly similar to the previous model. It does weigh in a little heavier, and slightly larger, but it is a similar weight to the Galaxy A15 5G.
The Power does not have an official IP rating, but does include a water-repellent design for added durability against minor spills and splashes. The back of the device has a unique, eco leather finish which does a nice job keeping fingerprints away, but does tend to collect dust. Most users should plan to use a case with the Moto G Power.
The side-mounted fingerprint sensor ensures quick and secure access, while the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack caters to traditional audio preferences. Motorola has done a nice job maintaining a consistent button layout that users seem to appreciate.
Motorola has also included NFC for wireless payments, both a SIM card slot and eSIM capabilities, and stereo speakers.
Overall the design of the Power is quite good, and the included features like wireless charging and NFC are a major upgrade over the past model.
Conclusion
The Moto G Power 5G 2024 is a well-rounded smartphone that offers impressive performance, a high-quality display, and excellent battery life at an affordable price. The 5G connectivity and range of other convenient features like wireless charging, NFC, headphone jack and more make it a compelling choice for budget-conscious users seeking modern features.
The phone is not without some drawbacks, including uninspiring camera performance, only one Android update, and a lot of preinstalled bloatware that will have to be removed.
But if these drawbacks can be overlooked, the Moto G Power is one of the best phones under $200 from Tracfone for 2024.
Compared to Motorola's other offerings from Tracfone, the Moto G Power outperforms them. The
Moto G Play 2024 has significantly less performance and features, but also has a retail price of just $49. The
Moto G 5G 2024, shares some similarities to the power, but includes half the RAM (4GB), a less powerful processor and lower resolution screen. The Moto G 5G is still a capable phone, and retails for just $99.
Samsung also has some competitive budget options, with the Galaxy A15 and A25 both available for under or around $200. The
Galaxy A15 5G does not have the performance to keep up with the Power, but does include a better screen and cameras. Samsung's
A25 5G offers fairly similar performance, but an improved camera setup, 4K video, and and a stunning display with much better brightness. The Power has wireless charging, 2GB more RAM, and a lower retail price.
The Bottom Line: Motorola offers a competitive smartphone in the 2024 Power that improves over last year's model in a number of ways and still offers good performance, a solid touschreen, and great connectivity features. If the cameras and software update policy are not a deal breaker, than the low price is very hard to beat.

Sister company Straight Talk is giving this phone away for free with thge purchase if one month of service for $45. It can be activated on TracFone at anytime and will be unlocked after two months.
Nice review, seems like a noticeable upgrade over the 2023 Power, but it’s out of stock on Tracfone for $169 and Amazon only has it unlocked for $300 (July 2024) may get the 2023 Power for $100, more in line with my budget. Will wait another week for Prime Days then it’s time for a purchase.
Oh, nice to see this website still up and running, haven’t bought a new phone in over 3 years, Power 2020, and the Verizon stuff is always in the back of my mind.
