Motorola Smartphone Pros and Cons - Best Tracfone Moto Devices 2023
Motorola smartphones have been a staple for many Tracfone users starting years ago when the first unlocked Moto G phones could be used on Tracfone BYOP, and continuing as Tracfone started offering subsidized Motorola phones directly.
Tracfone has released almost 20 different Motorola smartphones to use on their prepaid network and they continue to be a popular option for both locked and unlocked devices.
The phones offered by Tracfone tend to be less expensive and geared to budget-conscious consumers. Let's start with our pros and cons for these devices.
Tracfone Motorola Smartphone Pros and Cons
Motorola Smartphone Pros:
- Inexpensive and a Good Value
- Long Battery life
- Near stock Android experience
- Good durability and build quality
- Moto Actions and Gestures
- Typically generous storage and expandable storage options
- Standard 3.5mm headphone jack still included
One of the main benefits of Motorola smartphones is the balance of cost with features, and they generally do a great job delivering excellent value. The versions released by Tracfone often come with a significant price discount compared to unlocked phones, helping keep the price below $200 for most new phones. Motorola phones also typically have a stock Android experience which many users prefer, and have good durability and build quality.
While the amount of storage varies from one phone model to another, their latest device in the Power line comes with 128GB internal storage plus expandable storage. Many of the phones in the Stylus lineup also feature 128GB storage.
Now for some of the drawbacks to Motorola phones from Tracfone.
Motorola Smartphone Cons:
- Most phones lack NFC (Several of the new devices for 2024 now include NFC)
- Increase in bloatware in recent phones
- Limited software update policy (Only one major Android update)
- Camera quality is mediocre in most cheaper phones
- Slow battery charging speeds
- Many Motorola phones from Tracfone come with only 4GB RAM
Other drawbacks of Motorola include a lack of NFC on most of the phones released by Tracfone, limited Android update policy, and rather slow battery charging speeds.
We generally consider Motorola phones to be a great option, especially some of the devices that have a good balance of performance and price. However, some recent phones from Samsung, like the A14 5G, as well as Tracfone offering the Pixel 6a, have brought some good competition.

Thanks for this. I have a Moto G Power 2020 and was looking to upgrade it to the Moto G Power 5G 2023 but it looks like things haven't improved all that much. The Tracfone version is only about $100 but it also only has only 4GB RAM and 128GB storage compared to the $300 unlocked version. The lower RAM is annoying. So now I'm thinking Samsung, Google is out of my price range, even the 6a, I'm a $100 phone kind of guy.
I recently purchased the Moto g 84 5g having waited until now in 2024 a year after it's initial release to get a great price for a brand new boxed and massively discounted in price, and I'm really pleased with it, 3 months on with it's 12GB ram running things along with a reasonable CPU and 256gb storage+expansion For my photos and videos which have been very well shot with the 50mp front camera and great selfie camera which has been fun at the football meeting up with friends from all parts of Britain and taking loads of great quality pictures this phone has easily been the best budget ish price phone I've ever had. Along with Turbo Charging and fantastic screen quality what is NOT to love about this phone!?! Truly a steal at today's prices.👌😎
